H.E. Dr. Maryam Matar is a Physician, Scientist, Healthcare Influencer, and Leadership Mentor. H.E. Dr. Maryam pioneered the study of genes and advocated public education and awareness of genetic disorders across the ME region. She is a representative of the Scientific Community of the Arab world, promoting knowledge exchange and representing Arab women scientists and leaders, and working towards increased participation of women leaders in the global scientific community. She serves on the boards and committees of organisations and academic institutions, where she shares her scientific experience in strategic planning, public policy, and advocacy, as well as community empowerment campaigns. She was recognized among the top 20 Arab Researchers with the biggest contribution to humanity. She was also the first Emirati woman to hold the position of Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in 2006 and was listed as one of the “50 Most Influential Women in the Arab World” for the 7th consecutive year.
